SoMo 650 on expedition to Antarctica
Lorenzo Gariano, a renowned international adventurer, is not alone during his latest endeavour, as he will be carrying a Socket SoMo 650 on his climb up Mount Vinson, Antarctica’s highest peak. The devices have to be kept in the depths of an inside pocket and close to the body, in order to protect them from the extreme Antarctic cold. He is set to be the second Italian to conquer the highest summits on all seven continents. But he will be the only one to have been able to make blog entries and save photos while the expedition is going on.

Gryphon I GD4100
The new Gryphon I GD4100 from Datalogic is characterised by its wide 42° scanning angle, making it ideal for reading long codes. It also offers an extraordinarily high scan-rate of up to 325 decoding operations per second. This improved decoding rate improves productivity, while speeding up the capture of semi-legible and damaged codes. Datalogic’s exclusive, patented “Green Spot” feature – with the read-function activated directly by contact with the code – is ideal for use in poorly-lit or noisy environments. It is no accident that the data-logging devices in Datalogic’s Gryphon range of scanners are considered to be among the very best in their class. They are ideal for use in a wide range of situations, including commercial and office environments, hospitals, pharmacies, light industry, warehouse logistics and production facilities.

Motorola Service News
As of January 2nd 2009, Motorola customers have been able to enter into a Software Service Agreement. This is a freestanding software-support product, designed to allow customers to receive software updates and technical support for their equipment, with a view to keeping each device in absolutely top operating condition. This support is available for all MCDs and the following ADC units: P360, P460, P370 and P470, CA50, MK1200 and MK2200. Customers who have already entered into hardware agreements for their products need not take out additional software support, as they already automatically have access to the above facilities.

3. INTERNA
Motorola-University Wireless Switch Training
Motorola trainer, Angelo Cargnel, was pleased to take charge of more than 20 attentive course participants who, for three days from January 27th onwards, filled Intertrade’s onsite technical training facilities with the hustle and bustle of keen learners at work. The declared aim of the course was to provide a pass in the wireless certification exam that became obligatory at the start of this year for all resellers of Motorola wireless systems. All participants in the training group passed the examination with room to spare, and took the opportunity to find out a lot more about the configuration of RFS6000/7000 switches. Given the big response and highly-positive feedback that this training course generated, repeat sessions are now planned for April of this year. Intertrade will be sending out invitations nearer the date, but please feel free to let us know now if you are interested in taking part.

4. RUDIS TRICKS & TIPS
Datawedge v3.0
Version 3 of the highly-popular DataWedge application has now been released, and the question being asked is: why the direct jump from version 2.1.x to version 3? A quick look at the release notes reveals that the leap is totally justified, as the software has been redesigned from scratch and considerably enhanced with extra features. It is now possible, for example, to configure DataWedge directly from a PC operating via WLAN or Active Sync. Another new feature is the possibility of creating ADF rules, with which users of handheld scanners will be familiar. The presence of profiles allows the operator to use both input and output plug-ins to define sets of rules such as character replacements. Profiles can also be linked to applications. As you will have gathered, DataWedge 3.0 is a fully-developed piece of software with an ability to handle even complex tasks in a relatively straightforward way.

5. AND FINALLY
Mobile Vision is kids’ stuff
As you might recall, “Intertrade Goes West” was the Mobile Vision event held at the Westernstadt cowboy theme park in the German town of Dasing in 2007. Well now it’s time for the sequel, so to speak – this time at the Fürstenberg School in the town of Recke. Thanks to the surplus stocks of Mobile Vision cowboy hats that have been kicking around the Intertrade warehouse for over a year, every child attending the local primary school in Recke is now sartorially equipped to take part in the school musical entitled “Wakatanka”.
